British American TobaccoUK has an exciting opportunity for an Insurance Manager at Globe House, London – UK.

A new manager role has been built to deliver key aspects of the operational Insurance activities and to support in the delivery of the Group’s Insurance strategy.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and evolving company, where the candidate will have the opportunity to expand their multi-national insurance skills across many global insurance placements and be involved in key company-wide initiatives in relation to risk management and the evolving supply chain. Team members continue to advance their skills by rotating responsibilities dependent on experience. 

As part of the Group Insurance team supporting the Senior Insurance Manager, the position will be responsible for the management of the day-to-day activities in relation to the many of the Group’s Insurance programmes. Alongside the administrative duties, this includes supporting the negotiation, placement and renewal of the Insurance programmes and being a technical partner concern point for issues raised internally or externally, including claims management.

The team interfaces internally with a wide range of functions and collaborators. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in wide-ranging conversations, from advice to local End Markets, to advising on technical contractual questions and liaising with partners in relation to key risk exposures.

The team is also supported by various external providers including insurers and brokers. As well as participating in regular review meetings, the successful candidate will be expected to articulate coverage/programme challenges, finding pragmatic solutions and facilitate discussions regards loss prevention activities across the various classes of insurance.

Insurance is part of the Group’s Risk & Insurance team, led by the Group Head of Risk & Insurance which is part of the wider Finance Function.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Senior Insurance Manager in the delivery of the Group’s Insurance activities.
  • Handle the delivery of key Global Insurance programmes. This includes all aspects of programme delivery including;
    • Being the point of contact for technical mentorship in relation to insurance queries arising from internal or external parties
    • Reviewing and debating insurance policy coverage
    • Assisting with the negotiation, placement and renewal of the insurance policies
    • Claims management 
  • Provide input into business initiatives from an insurance and risk management perspective
  • Liaise with collaborators and assist in the communication with senior management to detail key risk exposures.
  • Support the management of the external service providers in the delivery of their services and annual objectives in accordance with contractual arrangements.
  • Keep up to date with insurance market conditions and standard methodologies.
  • Coaching and training of other risk and insurance team members as required.

What are we looking for?

  • Relevant Finance, Risk Management or Insurance qualification is required.
  • Experience of managing Global multi-national insurance programmes and an understanding of captives is expected.
  • A comprehensive understanding of P&C insurance, with proven experience including;
  • An ability to critically analyse policy construction and interpret policy wording
  • Expertise to assess adequacy of the wording and to be able to debate the policy language with the brokers and insurers is required
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of dealing with key classes of insurance; including placement considerations and an understanding of potential coverage challenges.
  • Good understanding of BAT’s business and operating models is desirable but experience in large multinational organisations is required.
  • Good facilitation, interpersonal skills and experience at influencing and negotiation is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required, able to produce high quality documents and engage at all levels throughout the organisation.
  • Ability to think creatively and problem solve from an insurable risk and policy wordings perspective.
  • Ability to simplify complex situations, synthesise and present complex information is a pre-requisite, with a demonstrable record of strong analytical capabilities. 
  • Ability to deliver to deadlines and prioritise competing demands is required.
  • Strong IT literacy and knowledge is required.  Strong excel, word and PowerPoint skill are also required.
